It’s been a while since I posted regarding the fitness challenge. There are several reasons why. First, I’ve been in an “explore, trial, and assess” mode. I’ve been trialing the Keto diet, Paleo diet, and Atkins diet to see which works best for me. I didn’t want to create a lot of posts about trialed methods and recipes that might not be used in the long run, so I refrained from blogging about it all.
Second, I recently found out that I am prehypertensive. In other words, my blood pressure is borderline high. That diagnosis has caused me to set other goals aside momentarily and focus on lowering my blood pressure. Currently I am following the DASH diet (“DASH” stands for dietary approaches to stop hypertension). This means I’m focusing on
- cardiovascular exercise,
- low-fat dairy,
- fish,
- fruits,
- vegetables,
- whole grains,
- reduction of sodium intake,
- reduction of red meat consumption,
- and more.
With the exception of limiting red meat and lack of scheduling of meals, this feels VERY similar to The Abs Diet (that I did successfully years back to get a completely flat stomach, toned body, and teenage-years-weight). I’m so glad to be eating sweet apples, Chobani Choco Loco Almond yogurt, and low-fat cheese again! Yay! 😀
My Daily Turmeric and Collagen Bullet Green Tea Recipe
I’ve also changed my daily morning drink. I used to drink an ACV morning drink. Now I drink my modified version of Bullet Coffee.
It’s pretty modified, LOL. First, I don’t like coffee, so it’s green tea. Second, I add a heaping 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder to it. Turmeric is powerful for its anti-inflammatory agents, and it has a SCORE of healthy benefits that I don’t want to bypass! So I choose one of the base teas pictured below, add in all the rest of the ingredients (please see the precise recipe below), blend it in my high speed Ninja blender, and drink it on the morning drive.
Right now, I feel like the health benefits of this morning drink outweigh the health benefits of my ACV drink, though I really enjoyed the ACV drink as the first thing to hit my stomach.
Recipe
- around 12 ounces of hot green tea of choice
- 1 heaping 1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon of healthful oil of choice (such as coconut oil, Udo oil, etc.)
- 1 scoop of marine collagen powder
- honey to taste
- coconut milk to taste
Heat tea as you normally would. Add all other ingredients. Blend all ingredients in a high speed blender or blend manually by stirring vigorously (the former is better, of course. 🙂 ). Consume!
